Dear recent Orlando transplant:

Ok, so you just moved to Orlando from New York / Philly / Chicago / San Francisco / et al. You feel lost, uprooted, misplaced -- you're starting to think Orlando might suck. Eager to find some nightlife in this town, you go to Lattitudes on Church Street, Slingapour's on Wall Street and that mega-club on Orange Avenue owned by one of those Backstreet Boys (Orlando's finest celebrities). Maybe you even think International Drive, Citywalk or Downtown Disney is where everyone hangs out in this town. Now you really think Orlando sucks.

Well, you're wrong. There is more to this city than theme park "nightlife" and crappy clubs with guys wearing shiny shirts, but you have to know where to look. Instead of complaining about how lame Orlando is compared to your city of origin, why not get out there and support your new scene -- it's a lot better than you think! After all, you moved here for a reason, right? (I'm guessing to escape the cold weather.) So you can do one of two things: either 1) move back to the city you think is sooooo much more awesome or 2) quit bitchin', check the events below and DON'T SLEEP on the shit that is happening!

08.08.08

So the big day is upon us: 08/08/08. The Olympics will start. Worlds will collide. And this week's edition of Get Mental at Sky60 will go the fuck off.

In case you haven't heard by now, there's a party on the roof starring Mr. Nate Day, the bestest, most awesomest DJ ever from the City of Angels. If you missed him last time, you better figure out a way to be there.

And wait -- it's also the bestest, most awesomest artist on the planet's birthday blowout. Yes, that would be Mr. Andrew Spear, who will be the big three-five (ouch). He'll probably be pretty drunk, to say the least.

The password this week comes in limited edition form, since only the first 50 people who use it will get in. Get there early, kids!!! If you're one of the chosen few, the phrase "Spearlife, still alive at 35 !!!" will get you in free!

This is THE party of the summer so don't want to miss out. In case you still need convincing, check out some past mixes from Nate Day and we'll see you there!

PS... it was even featured in the Orlando Weekly AND on Metromix Orlando this week. You have no more excuses, people!!!

Melanie Adds: Hey! I wrote that (in the weekly) and OMFG. Tonight will be amazing.

Grits n' Gravy + Nate Day

Are you upset at Becky because youre not 21 yet and can't get into the Peacock Room for Cub and Nigel? Well, don't go beatin her up just yet, cuz I've got you covered.

After your fromp at the Drunken Monkey, you wont be far from I bar, which every Tuesday nights gives you just about all the old soul, funk and rock and roll that your little tushy can handle. Its free for 21+ (hey, I dont make the rules) but only $3 for the little ones. Drink specials include $1 PBRs if you get there early.

And tomorow, head out to Carnival at Suite B, get a sneak peak at This Friday's insanity. The Carnival boy's are slacking on promotion, but the night will give you a good idea of what to expect at Get Mental. Or maybe not, since Day is about as unpredictable as Mot and Spear and all the other DJ's free-for-alling on fri.

Lol'n through Monday

I would like to start off with a huge, tremendous, COLOSSAL, MASSIVE, HUMONGOUS (look, I can use a thesaurus!!!) THANK YOU to everyone who came out to Sky60 on Saturday night!!!!!!!!!!! Muchas, muchas gracias!!!!!!

If you missed seeing Nate Day this past weekend, I have good news and bad news. First, the bad: holy bejesus, did you miss an awesome party. If there had been a roof on the club, he would have torn it off.

Now for the good news: you have one more chance to catch him before he rides off into the LA sunset. He'll be playing again tonight at Crush, along with residents Pauly Crush, Justin Scott, Miss Fit, Ge30n, and Koolbreeze.

Even more good news: you can get in for free before 11 by signing up for the Crush guest list.

Password for FREE admission to Nate Day at Sky60 this Saturday!!!

My internet access is about to be taken away, so this is my final push for Saturday night!!!

If you missed my post about how awesome Nate Day is, you should probably go back and read it.

And since Andrew Spear has already summed the night up so eloquently, I will just quote his Myspace bulletin:

"If you don't know by now, this is what you are doing Saturday...

NATE DAY is coming to Orlando this weekend to kill it with ME & MISS BECKY this SATURDAY NIGHT @ SKY60
and it's free with the password(s):

"I'm here to see DAY all night !!!"

if you don't say that, then you will have 2 pay $5.

it's up 2 u.

here's some examples,

if u have short term memory loss, then write it down.

if u r rich then u don't need the password,
then u should tell some friends that aren't as rich as u.

and most importantly, if u don't care about nate day, password(s), or have $5 you probably shouldn't b coming at all .......... cause u don't know how 2 move it, move it anyway suckah !!!!!

This Saturday: Nate Day invades Orlando

This Saturday night at Sky60, I am super excited to get to play with Nate Day, a super awesome DJ coming out of LA right now.

The first time I heard about him was through the blog Cause=Time where I first downloaded his mix Space People Space Disco. Like the blog author, I was intrigued by the tracklist: it was only 30 minutes long, yet managed to pack in 18 songs. Pretty impressive. Here is the tracklisting, and if you haven't done so by now, go download it!!!

Space People Space Disco
1. Intro- Nate Day and Jimi Hendrix
2. Loverboy - Kid Alex
3. Get Low/Club Action - Herve and Yo Majesty (Scattermish Timid Edit)

6. Rapture - My Robot Friend (Hellraiser Freeleance Remix)

16.Don't Be Shy (Speaker Junk Remix) - Spektrum
17.Trina Kills - Mr. Oizo
18. Dj's Don't Dance - Matthew Savant

So you can imagine how stoked I was when my favorite.blog.ever. dropped his new mix on us, right before the WMC. Entitled Everywhere in LA is 30 Minutes (which reminds me of the movie Clueless), it's another 30-minute mix full of awesomeness. Again, you need to download that shit right now!!!

Everywhere in LA is 30 Minutes
1. Hail Social – AM-FM (DJ Siyoung Remix)
2. Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor (Soulwax Dub)
